A police raid found that girls as young as 14 had been working as prostitutes out of the Kalibata City apartments in Pancoran, South Jakarta, for the past six months.

Two apartment units – one in the Jasmine tower and one in the Hebras tower – were used in this prostitution ring. The unit in Jasmine was the girls’ accommodation whereas the unit in Hebras was where the girls would serve clients.

The Jakarta Police say the girls were advertised online and through instant messaging services like Blackberry Messenger. The police had been investigating the case for the past month and finally made the bust on Friday.

Police arrested FMH, a 25-year-old man from Pondok Bambu, East Jakarta, who was employed as a broker for the prostitutes.

“FMH is the one who takes the sex workers to Hebras tower from Jasmine tower. He also directs clients to Hebras,” said Police Commissioner Rita Iriana of the Jakarta Police Crime Investigation Unit, as quoted by Kompas on Saturday.

Rita added that there were five sex workers in this prostitution ring. They were aged 14, 16, 17, 19 and 20. Worryingly, the 16-year-old girl is pregnant.

“The [pregnant] girl was still told to serve clients,” Rita said.

The girls were taken to a social agency in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta for protection.

The police are still trying to locate and arrest the owner of this illegal prostitution ring.
