Wow, that didn’t take long. After raiding a Pondok Indah house filled with 29 suspected members of a Chinese cyber crime syndicate yesterday (the third such raid this month), police are now announcing that they raided yet another house in South Jakarta last night based on information from the Pondok Indah raid.
The Directorate of General Criminal Investigations for the Jakarta Police arrested 31 Chinese nationals based on the raid of the house on Jalan Kemang Selatan. Police said some of the Chinese got word about the Pondok Indah raid and tried to flee to some hotels in Kemang, but police found them anyways.
Director General of Criminal Investigation Commissioner Krishna Murti told Kompas, “After hearing [their partners] had been captured, they tried to escape to three hotels.”
Krishna said the Chinese nationals in Kemang are suspected, like those caught before them, of committing fraud and blackmail against other Chinese citizens.
From the results of their interrogations, police say the Chinese extortion artists were each making Rp 12-15 million per month.
