The police busting a bunch of illegal immigrants in Jakarta is nothing new. But when those immigrants are suspected of working for the Yakuza, then we have to admit we are impressed by the balls on our police force.
In all, the police arrested a group of 96 immigrants from Ancol and Lebak Bulus recently. 82 of them were Taiwanese and 14 were Chinese.
“They were from an organization that was protected from the big criminal organization syndicate from Japan, the Yakuza,” said Krishna Murti, director of Jakarta Police’s Public Crimes Investigation Unit, as quoted by Merdeka today.
The illegal immigrants were based in Jakarta where they carried out internet and credit card fraud against wealthy victims in mainland China.
The 96 immigrants will soon be deported and banned from entry into Indonesia.
The police have actually conducted several similar raids against Chinese cyber crime syndicates earlier this year, though none of them were reported to have any links to the Yakuza.
