Yesterday’s grisly discovery of two corpses belonging to a married couple in the Klawing River in Purbalingga, Central Java, became even more mysterious after police learned the husband and wife were from, and were likely murdered, in the capital of Jakarta (some 370 km away from Purbalingga).
The bodies of Husni Zarkasih (58 years old) and Zakiyah Masrur (53 years old) were found on Monday in the waters of the Klawing River wrapped in a bed sheet. Identification found on the bodies helped police quickly figure out that the couple actually lived in Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta.
The Purbalingga Police contacted Jakarta’s Tanah Abang Police Precinct who then sent officers to the home of Husni and Masrur. There, they found evidence of violence leading them to conclude the couple was likely murdered there.
“Inside we found a blood streak, but it was like it had already been wiped away. In a messy room, we found the drawer still open,” said Tanah Abang Police Head of Criminal Investigations Mustakim today as quoted by Vivanews.
Based on testimony from their neighbors, the couple was last seen alive on Sunday, or just one day before their corpses were found hundreds of kilometers away in Purbalingga. Their car has also gone missing.
The Jakarta Police are still coordinating with their counterparts in Purbalingga to help track down the couple’s killers and bring them to justice.
