Police awards taxi driver who returned kidnapped 6-year-old girl

CCTV footage showed an unidentified man leading Sintya out of Pusat Grosir Cililitan on Saturday

The kidnap of 6-year-old Sintya Hermawan fortunately came to a happy conclusion when she was returned home yesterday morning.

Sairin Siansyan, the Blue Bird taxi driver who drove Sintya home, was given a certificate of recognition from the East Jakarta Police for playing his part in returning the girl home safely.

“This award is for Bapak Sairin, who was brave enough to go beyond his job as a taxi driver. He saw that the girl was alone and had the initiative to drive Sintya to her parents,” said East Jakarta Police Chief Umar Faruq, as quoted by Metro TV yesterday.

Sairin said he was delighted with the award.

“I’m happy and proud. I never expected to receive recognition like this,” Sairin said with a smile.

Yesterday morning, an unidentified man, who didn’t resemble the suspected kidnapper as seen on the CCTV footage, hailed a cab for Sintya to have her driven back to PGC (Pusat Grosir Cililitan), where she was kidnapped. When in the cab, however, Sairin decided to drive Sintya home instead. Luckily, Sintya knew her home address.

Sintya was kidnapped from a children’s playground inside PGC on Saturday afternoon. The man who kidnapped her was captured by the mall’s CCTV cameras, but the police have not yet located the suspect.
