The police have arrested a 25-year-old man named Mursalim as the sole suspect in the murder of 28-year-old Japanese woman Yoshimi Nishimura in South Jakarta. Shockingly, Mursalim was actually a security guard at Yoshimi’s apartment building.
Authorities had enough evidence linking Mursalim to the crime, including CCTV footage of him and the Yoshimi walking together in the apartment building on the day of her death. They also found some of the victim’s belongings in Mursalim’s house in Ciracas, East Jakarta.
“The suspect wanted [to steal] the victim’s belongings,” said AKBP Audy Latuheru, head of the Crime Investigation Unit at the South Jakarta Police, as quoted by Vivanews today.
Mursalim was arrested in Lampung yesterday and is being brought back to Jakarta today.
The police also have sufficient evidence to suggest that the murder was premeditated.
Initial medical tests showed that Mursalim killed Yoshimi by strangling her. But the police have not yet officially determined the cause of death before the victim’s autopsy results are released.
Yoshimi was found dead on Monday in her 10th floor apartment in the Casa Grande Residence in Tebet, South Jakarta. The police believe that she died two days before she was found.
