The Jakarta Metro Police have arrested one suspect in the murder of Davidson Tantono, who was shot in the head last Friday while carrying a large amount of cash.

“We’re still interrogating (the suspect),” Jakarta Metro Police Chief M Iriawan briefly told the media this morning, as quoted by Tempo.

On June 9, 31-year-old Davidson was fatally shot in the head while he was at a gas station in Daan Mogot, West Jakarta. This case is thought to have been a well-planned robbery as Davidson had been carrying Rp 350 million (US$ 26,000) in cash belonging to investors in his business.

The police believe that the crime was carried out by a well organized group.

“We received information that there are spies inside banks,” said Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Argo Yuwono.

“They spot whoever takes out large amounts of cash alone.”

Argo said that their accomplices outside the bank are tasked with following targets marked for robbery, and, in Davidson’s case, to use fatal measures if they have to while carrying out the robbery.

The police have not revealed how many people they believe are responsible for Davidson’s robbery and murder.

Shootings are rare in Jakarta largely due to the government’s strict gun control, but in addition to Davidson’s murder, there was another fatal shooting of a young woman three days later. The police believe that the perpetrators could be armed with handmade guns.
