Police arrest man who fired airgun at another car on toll road

The police finally tracked down and arrested the man who they thought fired an airsoft gun at another car on the JORR toll road on Monday. But it turned out that the suspect used something more powerful than the airsoft gun.

The suspect, Rachmanto, used a Baretta M84 airgun, which, under the right circumstances, can actually kill a person.

“It turned out to be an air gun, not an airsoft gun. He used a bullet made from brass weighing 1.5 grams. It could pierce through windows, so it was lucky that [the bullet] didn’t hit the victim in the head,” said East Jakarta Police Chief Umar Faroq, as quoted by Metro TV yesterday.

“They (airsoft gun and air gun) are both gas-powered weapons. But the airsoft gun gives off a pressure of 2 joules, whereas the airgun is bigger, with 4 joules. This could pierce through glass, or even human flesh if shot from 3 meters away.”

The police also revealed that Rachmanto belongs to a firearm organization called the Rangers Shooting Club. The legality of the club is still being investigated.

Rachmanto could face up to 12 years in prison for his crime.
