A man who owns a boarding house exclusively for women in Jakarta’s neighboring city of Serang, Banten, was arrested after 15 of his tenants alleged that he had been peeping on them in the bathroom using a hidden CCTV camera.

One of the tenants, identified by her initials ES, said that they had recently discovered the hidden camera, which was placed on the corner of a ceiling in the boarding house’s shared bathroom.

“We were not suspicious at first, it looked just like a lamp. When we checked, it turned out to be a camera, and when we confronted the boarding house owner he said it was a wristwatch,” ES said, as quoted by Merdeka today.

However, the tenants say they managed to find indisputable evidence that the camera was wired all the way to the boarding house owner’s computer in the shop next door. They then reported their finding to the police.

After being interrogated by the police, the alleged peeper, identified by his initial A, admitted to installing the hidden camera. In fact, he said he installed it a year ago.

“Because the bathroom was nearby, whenever he heard a tenant take a shower, he would turn on his screen. According to his statement, the suspect was only doing it for fun,” said Serang Police Chief Komarudin.

“Whenever he wanted, he could watch (the footage), and it was all for private consumption.”

The police say they are carrying out an intensive interrogation on A, as well as questioning neighbors and tenants about his behavior.

It’s not yet known what charges A would face.
