The Jakarta Police on Monday arrested five people suspected of being the ringleaders of the street vendor riot that took place at the National Monument (Monas) on June 20.
One of them is 6 months pregnant. However, the police said they aren’t holding her in custody for the time being out of compassion.
“She wants to be cooperative and report to us twice a week,” said Jakarta Police Spokesman Muhammad Iqbal yesterday, as quoted by Merdeka.
The police are still trying to locate more suspects behind the riot, in which hundreds of Monas’ evicted street food vendors attacked the Satpol PP police unit and the newly built Lenggang Jakarta food hawker center in Monas.
The five suspects, including the pregnant woman, could face up to 6 years in prison for starting the riot.
