Now that most mudik travelers have returned from their hometowns or are on the way, police have assessed the human toll taken by this years Idul Fitri travels along Indonesia’s unsafe roads.
Yesterday, police announced that, from July 10-22, 575 people died on Indonesia’s roads, a 17% decrease from the number of fatalities in 2014.
In total, police recorded 2,742 road accidents which also seriously injured 970 people and slightly injured 3,602.
As part of Operation Ketupat, the annual effort by Indonesian police to safeguard the country’s roads during and around Idul Fitri, some 82,538 officers were deployed throughout the country from July 10-25.
