A mysterious shooter fired a shot at the Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry office on Jalan Rasuna Said yesterday, leaving a hole in one of the government building’s windows (nobody was injured). The above photo, which has gone viral recently, supposedly shows the shooter positioned on the Casablanca flyover by the ESDM office.
There isn’t much evidence to support that claim as it’s unclear who took the photo or if the person highlighted actually stopped to take a shot at the ESDM office or if it’s just a motorcyclist passing by (motorcycles are prohibited from drive on the Casablanca flyover, by the way. But that doesn’t stop many motorcyclists from taking the elevated road).
That said, it does look like the person in the photo would have been in just the right position to take a shot at the ESDM office that would have resulted in this dramatic damage:

It’s not yet known who or what the shooter’s target was.
“[The shot was fired into] the office of the minister’s special staff member. It wasn’t Minister Sudirman [Said]’s office. It was very far from Minister Sudirman’s office,” said Jakarta Police Spokesman M Iqbal, as quoted by Okezone yesterday.
Energy resources analyst Marwan Batubara believes it’s possible that the gunfire was a message to the ministry, warning them not to limit companies access to Indonesian energy resources.
“It’s possible [that it was a warning shot against] regulations that are going to be changed. Some people might lose out [from regulations], but this is still just a possibility,” he said, as quoted by Republika yesterday.
