Persija players refuse to train over late salary payment

Persija’s financial woes continue despite news that the Jakarta Provincial Government paid off the soccer team’s financial debts a couple of months ago.

All of Persija’s players showed up at the Mako Brimob training ground in Depok yesterday. Instead of training, the players returned to the changing room, where team captain Bambang Pamungkas led a small meeting between players.

Persija Manager Rahmad Darmawan remained tight-lipped regarding the reason behind the players’ strike yesterday.

“I cannot comment yet, I’m going to meet with the management first. I can comment after I meet with them,” Rahmad said yesterday, as quoted by Indopos

It is strongly suspected that the players refused to train because the Persija management haven’t paid some players’ salaries for the past three months.
