An airsoft gun
YN, the head of the Penjaringan subdistrict in North Jakarta, proved to everybody that he is a tough leader. How? By threatening to shoot one of his citizens, who also happens to be his cousin, with an airsoft gun.
The police said 50-year-old Romlih H Solo paid YN a visit in Kalideres, West Jakarta, early Tuesday morning. YN thought Romlih was going to collect money owed from recent land deals.
“The incident happened at 12:30am. The victim (Romlih) greeted the suspect but the suspect replied by saying ‘get to the point’, and he took out an item that resembled a firearm,” said Martinus Sitompul, head of Jakarta Police Public Relations, on Tuesday as quoted by Merdeka.
Martinues said YN then pointed the weapon at Romlih and threatened to shoot him. Romlih wasn’t aware what YN was so worked up about and tried to dodge the weapon.
YN then fired a shot into the ground, which alerted locals who then rushed to the scene and separated the two.
“The weapon used wasn’t a gun, but an airsoft gun,” Martinus said.
The Kalideres Police Department confirmed that the incident took place, and that they confiscated YN’s airsoft gun, which he did not have a proper license for.
The news reached Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama today, who has come up with a threat of his own for YN.
“Today he’s being summoned by the Regional Secretary to provide his account of what happened. If proven [guilty], then he will be demoted and his replacement will be appointed tomorrow,” Ahok said today, as quoted by Merdeka.
