State-owned train company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) has filed a police complaint against a passenger after he was caught on camera defiling a female employee’s religious attire.
CCTV footage obtained yesterday from Paledang Station in Bogor, West Java showed a male passenger protesting to the staff. He then approached her and yanked up her hijab before walking away. The employee’s head covering remained in place following the harassment.
PT KAI says it has identified the passenger and has filed a harassment complaint against him with the Bogor Police.
According to PT KAI, station staff refused to board the passenger on a morning train from Bogor to Sukabumi. The passenger claimed that he is yet to get vaccinated against COVID-19 due to medical reasons, but was not able to present a doctor’s note as required by law.
“The passenger was angry and did not accept [being refused to board],” PT KAI Jakarta spokeswoman Eva Chairunisa said this morning.
“PT KAI will take stern action against anyone with untoward behavior or those who harass our staff.”
Amid a spate of sexual harassment cases on railway facilities, PT KAI recently published a PSA informing victims not to hesitate to report culprits to train employees or by sending DMs to the company’s official social media accounts. PT KAI said it is committed to banning culprits for life and to aid victims in pressing criminal charges against them.
