Parks officer found dead in the iconic Hotel Indonesia Roundabout’s pool

The iconic Bundaran HI, aka Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, was the scene of tragedy earlier today after a government worker was found dead inside the roundabout’s pool.

The 47-year-old victim was a man named Sugito who worked for the Jakarta Parks Department. He had been assigned the task of putting chlorine into the pool at around 10:45 am.

“Initially, the victim’s supervisors assigned him the job of putting chlorine in the pool. After approximately 20 minutes, the victim was not visible on the surface of the pool. One of his friends then found the victim at the bottom of the pool,” said Commissioner Suyanto, the head of public relations for the Central Jakarta Police, as quoted by Tribunnews

One of his coworkers tried to administer CPR to Sugito, who had stopped breathing, but to no avail. He was declared dead by doctors after being taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) .

Based on the observations of witnesses at the scene, Sugito looked like he might have fainted before he fell into the roundabout’s pool. Based on their investigation, police said they suspected Sugito might have fell and drowned because his legs were cramping.

The Hotel Indonesia Roundabout’s pool is only 180 centimeters at its deepest, meaning it would be almost impossible for somebody to drown in the pool’s water unless they were suffering from another physical impairment.

Sugito’s body remains at RSCM for further examination while police are still questioning several witnesses about what happened.
