A parking attendant in the city of Solok, West Sumatra, is facing multiple charges of arson after he allegedly set fire to a California Fried Chicken (CFC) fast food restaurant and a section of a traditional market on Saturday.

According to the police, the suspect, identified by his initials RY (22), first set fire to the CFC — a popular Indonesian fast food chain which has no relation to but is often accused to being a rip-off of KFC — because, as he said in his confession, the restaurant’s employees refused to give him a drink he asked for.

The police said RY, who was allegedly sniffing glue right before the arson, lit a trash can on fire, which then caused a gas canister in the restaurant to explode.

“The arson case initially began at the CFC, but then there was another fire at Pasar Raya Solok Blok C level two,” said Solok Police Chief Dony Setiawan, as quoted by Liputan 6 yesterday.

Firefighters managed to put out both fires. Luckily, there were no reports of casualties from the fires, but the extent of the damages they caused have not yet been revealed.

The authorities soon identified RY as the suspect behind both fires. He was charged with arson under the KUHP (Criminal Code), which is punishable by up to 12 years in prison.
