A 48-year-old man named Ana Rusmana was killed during an alleged fight over a karaoke attendant at a café in the city of Tangerang.

According to the police, on Tuesday just before midnight, Ana was killed by a 24-year-old man identified as Antong, who was not the least bit pleased that Ana had hired his favorite karaoke attendant, identified as Sherly.

“So Sherly was brought to Café Sabela for karaoke by the victim and his group of friends. It turned out that the suspect (Antong) also knew the woman (Sherly) from another café,” said Tangerang Metro Police Chief Harry Kurniawan, as quoted by Tempo yesterday.

“The victim and the suspect got into an argument, their two groups were fighting over Sherly.”

The conflict dissipated when the two groups agreed to share Sherly for two songs each, with Antong’s group going first. However, when it came to Ana’s group’s turn, Antong and his friends refused to let Sherly go with them.

Police said the conflict soon escalated into full-blown violence as Antong and his friends attacked Ana and his friends using broken bottles. Antong was also carrying a dagger, which he used to stab Ana on the left side of his waist.

Ana died from his injuries at the café while his two friends are still in hospital treatment for receiving cuts on their faces and bodies.

Antong and his five friends were arrested hours after the incident. The suspects may face at least 12 years in prison for murder.
