Having three or more passengers on a motorcycle is unfortunately an all-too-common sight in Jakarta, despite how blatantly dangerous it is.
This afternoon, Cacih, a 21-year-old woman, died after the motorcycle she rode with her two friends was hit by a truck in Jalan Raya Jonggol, Cileungsi, Bogor Regency.
Cacih’s friend, Herna was driving the motorcycle, while Cacih and another passenger, Mila, sat squeezed together on the passenger portion of the saddle, which is meant to seat one person.
“We suspect the motorcycle, which was driven by Herna, was going to make a u-turn. At the same time, a dump truck with the registration number A 9633 X driven by Inni was driving in the right lane and the accident was unavoidable,” said Asep Saefudin, head of the Traffic Accidents Unit at the Bogor Police, as quoted by Berita Satu today.
lThe three passengers were flung from the motorcycle after impact. Cacih died as the motorcycle landed on her, causing fatal head injuries. Herna and Mila were also injured but survived. They are now being treated at the Medika Kenari Cileungsi Hospital.
