Police announced today that Firmansyah, a 37-year-old resident of Bekasi, died Sunday after drinking adulterated alcohol. His acquaintance, Heru, remains in critical condition.
“The victim died yesterday evening,” said Bekasi Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Siswo today, as quoted by Tempo.
Siswo explained that the victim, along with three of his friends, Yugo Asvento, M Gozhali, and Ompong, were drinking a type of ginseng alcohol (mixed with adulterants) on Saturday night in Jakasetia, South Bekasi. Police said they drank from about 5pm to 11pm.
The next day at around 4pm, Firmansyah experienced vomiting and blurred vision after eating instant noodles. He was rushed to ANNA Hospital in Pekayon, South Bekasi where he received emergency treatment. But it was already too late, and Firmansyah died at about 8pm.
His friend Heru was rushed to the hospital early this morning, where he remains in the intensive care unit.
Firmansyah’s body was taken to the Police Hospital in Kramajati, East Jakarta, for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Police said the current whereabouts of Ali, the man who sold the deadly liquor, are unknown but that they are searching for him.
With the price of safe, legal liquor about to skyrocket due to new import duties, does anybody doubt that the amount of deadly, illegal liquor will increase and lead to more tragic deaths like this?
