Less than a week after a nurse was named a suspect for sexual harassment for allegedly fondling a patient’s breasts at a hospital in the East Java capital of Surabaya, another medical scandal has emerged from the neighboring city of Sidoarjo involving another nurse.
Over the past couple of days, a video went viral showing two people angrily confronting a nurse at Siti Khodijah hospital in Sidoarjo who they accused of administering an injection to their deceased mother, apparently unaware that the patient had already passed away at the time. The family members also demanded that a doctor, who they believe ordered the nurse to give the injection and thus was also unaware that the patient was already deceased, take responsibility for the alleged incident.
With the family threatening to sue the hospital and the video going viral, the East Java Province Police said they have already started an investigation into the matter.
“The location is a private hospital in Sepanjang sub-district, Sidoarjo. We have started an investigation,” said East Java Police Spokesperson Frans Barung Mangera, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.
Siti Khodijah hospital, through a legal representative, denied the accusations by the family in the video and said that this is an attempt at destroying their reputation.
“There is a systematic and structured attempt by someone to tarnish the hospital’s good name,” said Masbuhin, a lawyer representing the hospital.
Masbuhin added that the hospital will look into launching a lawsuit of their own for defamation.
“Before we pursue legal avenues, we will first study the motive and intention of the spreader of the video,” he said.
