Despite it being clearly against the law (and downright idiotic), some people still find it appropriate to joke about a bomb on an airplane.
While it has happened on several domestic flights in the past couple of months alone, the latest bomb joke on an airplane was told on a Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong leaving Jakarta this morning.
“Yes, there was an incident involving a bomb joke on Cathay Pacific,” confirmed Soekarno-Hatta airport head of Public Relations Mochamad Syukur, as quoted by Kompas today.
The offender was identified as Djoni, who was scheduled to fly on the Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong at 8:20 am today. It isn’t exactly clear where and when it happened, but Djoni joked about being in possession of a bomb before the flight’s departure.
His ill-timed joke caused a 30-minute delay to the flight as authorities had to conduct an additional security check on the plane to make sure that there were no actual bombs on board.
Djoni was rightly taken into custody by airport authorities while the plane left without him. Investigators reportedly interrogated Djoni all throughout this morning and into the afternoon.
Mentioning the word ‘bomb’ on an airplane is no laughing matter – offenders can be punished with anywhere from 1 to 15 years in prison for telling a joke that’s not even remotely funny to begin with.
