A viral video captured a momentary scare at the Halilintar roller coaster in Dunia Fantasi (Dufan) theme park, showing the iconic ride stopping mid-track with people on board.
The video, taken from a visitor on the ground, shows the ride stopping on an incline just at the beginning of the track. The visitor narrates that a theme park staff had gone over to the ride to instruct visitors to get off and walk down to the platform.
Indeed, the ride’s over-the-shoulder restraints had been lifted up by the time the video was taken.
Ariadi Eko Nugroho, a spokesman with the Ancol waterfront complex of which Dufan is part, confirmed the incident.
“That happened on Tuesday at 2pm. We confirm that it happened. We apologize to Dufan visitors, especially those on the ride and those who were queueing to get on,” he said today.
Ariadi added that Dufan staff evacuated the riders and led them down emergency ladders.
The ride was fixed and resumed operations at 2:21pm.
