If you’re a fan of computer games, you don’t need us to explain what Steam is – you’re probably downloading a copy of “Middle Earth: Shadows of Mordor” from it right now. But for those who are game-curious, Steam is the world’s most popular platform for downloading interactive digital entertainments. It offers speedy connection times, low prices (with frequent crazy cheap sales) and an unbeatable selection of everything from AAA titles to casual puzzle games.
Indonesian gamers will be very happy to hear that the service, which was developed by Valve, makers of the uber-popular Counter-strike series, are now catering to us with games priced in our very own currency.

Previously, Indonesian Steam users had to purchase games in US dollars. The new Rp. rates are quite a bit friendlier on our digital wallets. For example, a game called “Road Not Taken,” which in US Dollar territories is priced at $14.99, is priced at only Rp 115.999, which, at current exchange rates, is only $9.70.
According to a FAQ on the Steam website regarding the rupiah, users in Indonesia with existing Steam wallets had their credits automatically exchanged to rupiah at the current exchange rate.
In a country where piracy is a fact of life, its nice to see a company rewarding users who download legitimately. But we must warn those of you who are interested in giving Steam a try now, don’t do it unless you’re willing to give up hundreds of hours of your life to the gaming gods. You have been warned!
