Narcotics Agency officers shoot dead Nigerian national in Puri Park View apartment

National Narcotics Agency (BNN) officers yesterday shot dead a Nigerian national who was suspected of drug trafficking.

The alleged drug runner was identified as 26-year-old GM. BNN officers had reportedly detained him in Karawaci, Tangerang, and brought him to the Puri Park View apartments in Kembangan, West Jakarta so that GM could locate a stash of meth that he had stored there.

But at the apartment unit, BNN officials said that GM, who is large in build, tried to retaliate and grab a firearm from an officer.

“He was then shot in the chest twice,” said Arman Depari, deputy at BNN’s Narcotics Eradication Department, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.

But GM did not fall after getting shot twice. He reportedly kept fighting back for another 10 minutes before an officer fired a third shot, which killed him instantly.

Arman said that BNN had been tracking GM since 2015. GM is believed to have smuggled meth into Indonesia four times last year.

BNN also detained two women – one of whom had a romantic relationship with GM – and GM’s suspected trafficking partner, a Nigerian national with the initials JIO, who were at the apartment during the shooting.
