Judges at the Central Jakarta District Court sentenced both 19-year-old Imam Al Hafitd and Assyifa Ramadhani to 20 years in prison today for murdering 18-year-old Ade Sara on March 3, 2014.
Head Judge Absoro read out Imam’s sentence right after the same court sentenced his girlfriend, Assyifa, to 20 years in prison.
“[The court decided] to punish the convicted with 20 years in prison and for him to pay the court fee of Rp. 5000,” Judge Absoro said, as quoted by Vivanews today.
The judges ruled that both Imam and Assyifa had committed premeditated murder on Ade Sara, who was Imam’s ex-girlfriend. The district attorney previously charged the couple with life in prison.
Assyifa, who cried hysterically after hearing her sentence, is appealing the 20-year prison sentence.“We will appeal in a week, because there was no premeditated aspect to this murder,” said Triani, Assyifa’s legal counsel.
