After a week of free rides, Jakarta’s new MRT has begun full commercial operations today, but passengers will still get a substantial discount as the capital is introduced to the country’s first ever subway system.
As announced by Governor Anies Baswedan yesterday, MRT Jakarta is giving passengers a 50% discount on all standard fares throughout April.
“So, if based on the tariff [the ride] from Lebak Bulus to Bundaran HI is IDR14,000 (US$0.98), for one month, it will be IDR7,000 one-way,” Anies said, as quoted by Kompas.
Lebak Bulus-Bundaran HI represents the longest single trip on the existing MRT line. Check out the full list of fares between stations here.
Anies says the discount is to encourage Jakartans to get acquainted with the MRT.
“Other than that, it’s also to educate citizens to change the culture of driving their private vehicles to getting on public transportation,” he said.

The MRT operates daily from 5:30 am to 10:30 pm with a 10-minute headway between trains, should everything run smoothly.
Passengers can buy a daily ticket (which requires a IDR15,000 deposit) or use existing electronic payment cards such as Bank Mandiri’s e-Money, BCA’s Flazz, BRI’s Brizzi, BNI’s Tap Cash, and Bank DKI’s JakartaOne.
