Motorists, don’t forget to turn off your engines for one minute on November 10

Jakarta Police are reminding citizens to observe a minute of silence, even when people are driving, on November 10, 2014. The minute of silence will be observed to commemorate Heroes’ Day.

Jakarta Traffic Police head of the road safety division Irvan Prawirayudha said motorists should stop their vehicles on the road at 8:15 am on the day.

“There will be officers stopping vehicles on the road. Even if the light is green, when the officer blows his whistle and tells motorists to stop, we hope citizens will comply,” said Irvan.

This operation will only be enforced on major intersections in the city.

The minute of silence will be observed outside of Jakarta as well. The police plan to inform citizens about the activity through radio and television.

“We’ll also put up banners on the streets so that people will know about the minute of silence and we are hoping for their participation,” said Irvan.
