Motorcyclist in Transjakarta bus video claims to be a police officer

Earlier today, we showed you a video of Transjakarta bus passengers defending their driver from being ticketed by a policeman after the bus crashed into a motorcycle in the Busway lane. Now it became clear why the motorcyclist in the video acted like he was above the law and blamed the bus driver for the accident.

The Jakarta Police Traffic Directorate has done some investigation into the matter. They said the motorist claimed to be a police officer when he reported the accident to the policeman in the video.

“At first the officer received a complaint from the motorist. He said, ‘I’m a police inspector grade II of the South Jakarta police.’ He asked for help because [his motorcycle] was hit by a Transjakarta bus,” said Risyapudin Nursin, Jakarta Police Traffic Director, as quoted by Detik today.

The policeman then boarded the bus to check the bus driver’s license and registration. Risyapudin said he was about to ticket the driver but changed his mind when the passengers reacted strongly against the unfair treatment.

The policeman is currently being investigated by the Law Enforcement Unit at the Jakarta Police Traffic Directorate. The police also plans to investigate the motorcyclist who claimed to be a policeman.

This goes to show that people can act tough all they want, but when people’s smartphone cameras are rolling, nobody’s above the law.
