A motorcyclist miraculously survived getting hit by a train in the Pademangan district of North Jakarta this morning, though he is suffering from serious injuries.
According to reports, the unidentified driver was hit by a train on the railway crossing on Jalan Mangga Dua Raya. Police say he was distracted and was not aware of the incoming train at the time.
“The driver of the motorcycle was listening to music (while driving). He was wearing earphones at the time,” said Sigit, head of North Jakarta Police’s Traffic Accidents Unit, as quoted by Warta Kota today.
The driver is currently in intensive care at Husada Hospital, though the extent of his injuries was not revealed.
Last month, there was an accident on a railway crossing between a train and a van in Central Jakarta. Two people in the van were killed, while a huge fire engulfed and destroyed one of the train’s carriages. Luckily, no one in the train was injured.
Also last month, five people on two motorcycles were killed in Central Java after they forced open a railway crossing gate, which was shut at the time to let a train through.
