LSR, a 47-year-old single mother who was suspected of abusing her 12-year-old son GT, was released from police custody today at the request of the Commission for the Protection of Indonesian Children (KPAI).
KPAI Secretary General Erlinda said the commission came to the decision after they facilitated a meeting between LSR and GT.
“GT has forgiven his mother. It was apparent from the meeting we moderated yesterday,” Erlinda said today, as quoted by Kompas.
The KPAI also took into consideration the fact that LSR has two other small children that are still dependent on her.
However, LSR must first undergo three months of rehab with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) after she tested positive for marijuana use. During that time, her three kids will be cared for by their aunt.
LSR was arrested on July 14 after she was named a suspect in child abuse involving her own son, GT. GT ran away from home earlier this month and claimed that his mother abused him by scratching him with a saw, among other methods.
