More used trains from Japan arriving in Jakarta today for the KRL Commuter Line

In a bid to improve service for passengers, PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (KCJ) bought 16 used trains from Japan to add to its KRL Commuter Line fleet. The trains are expected to arrive in Jakarta today.

“The additions to the KRL will be used to replace some of the trains in our fleet that need long term maintenance, and also to increase the KRL’s number of daily trips,” Eva Chairunisa, PT KCJ Communications Manager, wrote in a text message to Vivanews today.

Eva said the new KRL JR 205 series is expected to arrive in the Tanjung Priok port, North Jakarta, today.

“There are 16 units arriving. These are the last trains that are being imported in the year 2014,” Eva wrote.

Eva added that PT KCJ bought 664 trains from 2008 to 2014. 176 of those trains were imported from Japan.
