Miss Indonesia 2014, Elvira Devinamira, unfortunately did not make it into final 5 at the Miss Universe 2015 contest, which just wrapped up in Miami (Miss Colombia won, BTW).
She was, however, able to make it into the top 15 – still an extremely impressive accomplishment for our paragon of Indonesian beauty.
Elvira also leaves the pageant with another prestigious honor — Best National Costume — for the amazingly elaborate (and at 20 kilos, heavy and cumbersome) outfit pictured above, which was inspired by Indonesia’s most iconic cultural heritage site, Borobudur.
The Best National Costume award is based on fan votes via Twitter, and Indonesian twitizens came through in a big way for Elvira, turning #MissUniverseIndonesia into a top trending topic in our country and securing her win.
With a successful Miss Universe run behind her, Elvira will probably be happy to return home, as long as the only uncomfortable questions she has to answer are about how uncomfortable that costume was, and not new questions about the veracity of certain photos (which she has said are fake and everybody seems to have forgotten about anyways).
