The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi, said she received information from the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong that both of the recent murder victims in Hong Kong were Indonesian nationals.
“I just received an update from our Consulate General in Hong Kong confirming the other one [besides Sumarti Ningsih] is Indonesian,” Retno said this afternoon. She did not reveal the identities of the victims.
Retno said the ministry has contacted the families of the two victims. She said the ministry will also keep coordinating with authorities in Hong Kong.
According to Retno, the case will go to court on November 10. Hong Kong police will carry out a reenactment of the gruesome murders on November 7.
Retno then gave her reassurances that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would do everything in its power to protect Indonesian citizens abroad.
“Not one Indonesian national will lose their rights abroad,” Retno said.
Previously, it was reported that British national Rurik Jutting murdered two women in Hong Kong, one of them being Sumarti Ningsih. The other victim’s identity remains unconfirmed, and there were conflicting reports about whether she was from Indonesia or the Philippines.
