No criminal charges yet — a military general has been transferred after he reportedly killed six cats in Bandung, West Java last month.

According to the Indonesian Military (TNI), a brigadier general identified by the initials NA killed stray cats using his air rifle in and around a military Staff and Command School (Sesko) in the West Java capital. NA admitted to the feline killing spree, saying that he merely intended to keep the cadets’ living quarters sanitary.

It has since been confirmed that NA killed six cats during the spree.

The military put out a statement today saying that TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa has removed NA from his post as the head of the Sesko, and placed him in his office as a special staffer.

It must be noted that NA’s transfer does not look like an outright punishment, as his was just one of several other transfers within TNI that General Andika sanctioned on Aug. 29.

That said, this does not necessarily close the door on NA facing charges related to animal cruelty for his actions.

It would be surprising, however, if NA were to be slapped with any serious criminal sanctions considering that Indonesia’s laws afford relatively little protection for animals, nor are they properly enforced.
