Junk AKA the Metromini bus
With the reckless way Metromini buses slalom between vehicles in tight spaces as if they’re like motorcycles, it’s a miracle we don’t hear about traffic accidents involving them more often than we do.
But when such a thing happens, it can be quite horrific.
A Ciledug-Blok M Metromini bus crashed into four motorcycles carrying six people on the Kebayoran Lama flyover yesterday. The bus allegedly tried to drive between cars and motorcycles that were stuck in a traffic jam.
The bus driver ran away after crashing into the motorcycles, as he feared that he could have been the target of an angry mob. But the police arrested him soon after and he is now in custody with the South Jakarta Police.
“I didn’t know how fast I was going because the speedometer was dead. But the brake worked,” the unnamed driver said, as quoted by Warta Kota yesterday.
Well, no shit his speedometer was dead. We bet nothing works properly on those four-wheeled hunks of junk that are most Metromini buses. Might as well get rid of them once and for all.
Meanwhile, five of the six victims received severe injuries from the incident and are in intensive care at Muhammadiyah Taman Puring Hospital.
