Megawati Sukarnoputri, former president of Indonesia and the chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), the party of current President Joko Widodo, is said by many to be one of the country’s most powerful politicians and is using her cunning and connections to control the current administration.
So what was the insightful wisdom that Megawati gave to members of PDI-P planning election runs at the opening of the PDI-P Party School for Regional Heads in Jakarta yesterday?
“I warn you, candidates for regional head positions, to have no intention of trying to enrich yourselves [through illegal means] because it will damage the party’s image,” she said, as quoted by Republika Online.
Reiterating the point, she said, “Do not have any inclination towards corruption. Throw away that thought.”
What does it say about Indonesia that Megawati feels the need to explain to a group of educated adult politicians that corruption is a bad thing?
It certainly says a lot about PDI-P. In fact, Megawati probably needed to reiterate the “corruption is bad” point to her party’s members several more times, considering PDI-P has been called the most corrupt party in Indonesia and PDI-P politicians were involved in more graft cases between 2004 and 2014 than any other party. Oh, and it’s probably orchestrating a massive conspiracy with the police to bring down the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
