Married couple from Makassar caught smuggling meth concealed in underwear

Today, on the same day that Indonesia executed four drug convicts in what the government describes as a necessary deterrent to combat the supposed rising narcotics use in the country, a married couple was arrested in Medan for smuggling meth.

Makassar citizens Ronald Hansye Saroinsong and his wife Reni Reep were caught with over 1kg of meth hidden in their underwear as they were about to embark on a flight from Medan to Makassar.

Medan’s Kuala Namu airport security officers became suspicious of the couple because of the strange way they moved while going through security checkpoints.

“We then conducted a body search on them,” said Kuala Namu airport spokesperson Wisnu Budi Setianto, as quoted by Merdeka today.

The couple was then arrested after officers found packages of meth concealed and taped underneath their underwear.

To the authorities, the couple admitted that they were paid Rp 15 million by an unnamed drug supplier in Makassar, and that they accepted the job because neither of them had permanent employment.

Drug smuggling is punishable by death in Indonesia.
