A married couple, Huzaeny Sudrajat and Atina Roswatini, were arrested yesterday for fraud involving a ridiculously expensive Hermes handbag.
The couple advertised an Rp 150 million Hermes handbag on an online classifieds service. This caught the attention of a potential buyer, Albert Satriyo Wibowo.
“The suspects asked the victim to transfer half of the handbag’s price [as a down payment]. The victim agreed and transferred the money on April 22, 2015,” said Kebayoran Lama Police Chief Riftazudin, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.
Instead of holding up their end of the deal, the married couple instead disappeared with the money. Albert then reported the incident to the police.
The police finally arrested the suspects early on Wednesday morning.
However, the police believe that the couple’s child was also involved in the fraud scheme. They believe the child is now hiding in Bali.
The married couple could face up to 4 years in prison each for committing fraud.
