Man whacks his uncle with machete for failing to pay Rp 400k he owed

To some, Rp 400 thousand is not a lot of money at all. For others, it’s worth severely injuring one’s uncle over.

Riyanto, a 33-year-old man from Tebet, South Jakarta, was owed Rp 400 thousand by his uncle, 45-year-old Rohman.

Riyanto went to see his uncle to ask for his money, but instead of giving it to him, Rohman yelled at Riyanto instead.

“The victim never paid back the money. Other than that, the victim also often yelled at the suspect because he sleeps all the time. The suspect became upset,” said Tebet Police Chief I Ketut Sudarma, as quoted by Warta Kota yesterday.

A heated verbal argument ensued. Unable to contain his anger, Riyanto took a machete and whacked his uncle once in the face and once in his left arm.

Hearing screams coming out of the house, neighbors barged in and found Rohman lying on the floor, bleeding. They carried him to the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, where he is currently still being treated for his severe wounds.

Riyanto was arrested by the Tebet Police. He could face up to five years in prison for his crime.
