Man tries to smuggle Rp 54 million worth of meth from Malaysia in Nelson Mandela biography for kids

Twenty-four-year-old CS probably wasn’t thinking crystal-clear when he tried to smuggle Rp 54 million worth of methamphetamines from Malaysia to Indonesia.

While in Malaysia, CS wrapped the 40 grams of meth he obtained with aluminium foil. He then hid the meth in a biography of the late South African revolutionary Nelson Mandela.

“He cut out the middle of the book and hid the meth there,” said Okto Irianto, head of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Customs, as quoted by Tempo today.

CS packaged the book and sent it to his address in Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, with the intention to receive it when he was back in Indonesia.

However, Soekarno-Hatta airport officials detected the hidden meth after the package went through an X-ray machine. Incredibly, CS put his home address onto the package.

The police tracked down and arrested CS at his home on Wednesday. He is now in police custody, along with his Nelson Mandela biography.
