When it rains as heavily as it did yesterday in Jakarta, we must be extra cautious of objects falling on us, which could come in the form of displaced billboard ads to trees.
Tragically, one fallen tree killed a man in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta during yesterday’s heavy rain.
“The deceased victim was named Wahyu Ramadhani AKA Doni. The victim died on the spot,” said Jakarta Metro Police Spokesman Awi Setiyono, as quoted by Kompas today.
Awi said that the 23-year-old Doni was taking cover from the stormy weather with four others inside a wooden hut in a housing complex in Lebak Bulus. A tree that towered above the hut gave in to the strong winds and heavy rainfall and crushed the hut underneath.
The other four people in the hut luckily managed to escape, but Doni sadly couldn’t get out in time.
Elsewhere, a palm tree also collapsed in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta during yesterday’s stormy weather. The tree fell on and crushed a parked taxi while the driver was inside. Luckily, the driver was unharmed.
