Man on Fire: The badass trailer for ‘Raid’ star Iko Uwais’ new film ‘Headshot’ promises epic action

Martial artist Iko Uwais and director Gareth Evans elevated Indonesian action cinema to the world stage with “The Raid: Redemption” and its sequel “The Raid 2”. Genre movie fans have been eagerly waiting to see Iko in his next major role and we finally get to see a glimpse of the pencak silat master in action once again in this newly released teaser trailer for his upcoming film “Headshot”.

Directed by Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel (better known as the Mo Brothers – creators of the 2009 horror hit “Macabre”), “Headshot” stars Iko playing a man who makes up in a hospital with no memory of his past life after taking a bullet to the head. He is nursed back to health by Ailin, a student doctor played by Chelsea Islan, who names him Ishmael (after the Moby Dick character) and tries to help him regain his memories.

But his past catches up to him in the form of a drug lord, played by Singaporean actor Sunny Pang, who kidnaps Ailin, forcing Ismael to battle an army of criminals who might be made up of his former colleagues.

Although the story sounds a bit familiar (Bourne who?) as long as the action in the film lives up to the glimpses of over-the-top badassery we see in the trailer, we’ll be first in line to see the film.

Well, in Indonesia at least. The lucky folks who get to see “Headshot” first will be in Canada where the film is premiering at this year’s edition of the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival, which starts this week.
