Police are suspecting that 66-year-old Mutanto lost control of his car when he crashed it into six motorcycles in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, yesterday afternoon.
Head of the Traffic Accidents unit at the East Jakarta Police Robi’in said Mutanto lost concentration when he was driving, as he appears to be suffering from depression.
“Mutanto admitted to being depressed, because it’s been a month since his wife passed away. We suspect that it’s because of that depression that he lost concentration and lost control of the car, which then crashed into six motorcycles coming from the opposite direction,” Robi’in said yesterday, as quoted by Kompas.
“He (Mutanto) is a retired Pertamina employee. He was going to Bank BTPN in Bekasi. But on the way he lost concentration.”
Luckily, the six motorcyclists escaped with minor injuries.
The police are still investigating Mutanto, father of two and of grandfather to two from Pondok Gede, East Jakarta. The police will charge Mutanto with reckless driving, which carries a one-year prison sentence.
