A massive blaze ripped through a large section of Bandung’s City Hall today, while reports of a man’s arrest may suggest that there could be more to the cause of the fire than a regular accident.
Fire broke out in the Planning, Research and Development (Bapelitbang) building in the Bandung City Hall complex at approximately 10am today. It took firefighters around two hours to contain the blaze, while work resumed to put out minor fires.
Thankfully, there were no reported casualties as City Hall staff evacuated the building in time. Important documents kept at the location of the fire have reportedly been digitally backed up.
City Hall spokesman Yayan A Brilyan said there is suspicion that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. However, police were seen apprehending and taking away a man in a black vest, who is believed to be a construction worker at the location.
“[Police] will look into that. They will announce something later,” Yayan said.
