Last Sunday, Rahmat, a Depok citizen, was seen working hard to help organize a wake for Ratna, a woman who had died earlier that day.
What witnesses did not know at the time was that Rahmat may have been an accomplice in Ratna’s murder.
Early Sunday morning, a police officer named Triyono had a heated argument at home with Ratna, his wife. Rahmat, who is Triyono’s close friend, allegedly came over and helped Triyono commit the unthinkable crime of murdering the officer’s wife. They reportedly suffocated her with a pillow after rendering her unconscious with a punch to the nose.
The two men then left her body in bed and told people that Ratna was sick throughout the day. Then, at around 7:30 pm, Triyono announced to his neighbors that his wife died from some mysterious illness.
A wake for Ratna soon began as neighbors started to arrive to offer their condolences. Witnesses said Rahmat was one of the busiest people during the wake.
“He helped install lights, looked for a bucket to contain donations, and other things. [Rahmat] was busy that night helping the victim’s family,” said neighborhood chief Waras, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.
However, people were suspicious of Triyono, who didn’t seem at all saddened by his wife’s passing during the wake.
The Depok police were suspicious too and yesterday named Triyono and Rahmat suspects in Ratna’s murder.
Triyono and Rahmat are now in police custody. The two suspects face murder charges, though it’s not clear at this point how severe their punishments would be.
