Sopandi, a 27-year-old maintenance worker, fell from a height of 7 meters off of the MNC Tower in Jalan Kebon Sirih Timur, Menteng, Central Jakarta on Wednesday night.
The victim, who slipped as he was mending the building’s exterior wall, died after receiving head wounds from the fall.
Other maintenance workers in the building blamed Sopandi’s death on the lack of safety precautions given to the workers.
“We regret that this upscale skyscraper can’t provide the necessary safety equipment,” said a worker, who preferred to remain anonymous, as quoted by Vivanews yesterday.
Sopandi’s body is currently undergoing an autopsy at the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Central Jakarta.
The police are currently interviewing witnesses to Sopandi’s fall, as he apparently wasn’t the first victim to have died from a fall from the tower.
