Luggage thieves at Soekarno-Hatta include more than just Lion Air porters: police

Among the many stories we’ve written about Lion Air’s troubles recently, one of the most disturbing was that several of their porters and security guards had been arrested after being caught red handed stealing valuables from passengers bags at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

But it now looks like the problems extends beyond the problem-plagued airline, with Soekarno-Hatta Police now saying that the problem of luggage theft extends beyond Lion Air.

“Not only Lion Air, there are other airlines too. In letters to the editor, Sriwijaya Air passengers also complain about that, so we are also investigating,” Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Chief Commissioner Roycke Harry Langie said as quoted by Tribunnews.

Roycke would not elaborate further as to what other airlines besides Lion Air and Sriwijaya were under investigation, but he did say that had found further evidence of theft from passenger baggage while investigating the Lion Air case.

In addition to porters and security guards, he said officers in other departments, such as lost and found, were also believed to be involved in the luggage theft scheme.

We don’t know about you, but we’re definitely going to be paying extra to get our luggage security wrapped the next time we check them through Soekarno-Hatta.
