Lena, a 19 year-old girl, had just broken up with Genta, her boyfriend. Distraught over the breakup, she decided she wanted to end her life by jumping off the 20-meter high flyover on Jalan Arif Rahman Hakim in Depok.
Crying that she did not want to be left by Genta, Lena was prepared to jump until a passing motorist, Ridwan Rahman, was able to persuade her to come down from the top of the bridge.
“She wanted to jump, saying she had just gone through a breakup. Confused what to do, some other people and I immediately took her to the police station,” Ridwan said yesterday.
Afterward, it was revealed that Lena and Genta had been going out for 5 months before they broke up. They broke up over an argument. Genta had been her first love and Lena was inconsolable so she decided to end the pain by taking her life.
“She just keeps crying and does not want to stop. We’re going to call her parents,” said Superintendent Irwan Anwar of the Depok Police.
