Lion Air passenger flying to Manado says his baggage was broken into and belongings stolen

Baggage thievery in Indonesian airports is certainly nothing new, with the latest case allegedly happened to a Lion Air passenger.

Yesterday, Ade Yuliansyah flew with Lion Air from Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta to Sam Ratulangi in Manado, North Sulawesi. He checked in his baggage for the flight, which included a cardboard box.

“I arrived in Manado at 2:20pm, and when I collected my baggage, I was shocked to see that my cardboard box, which contained souvenirs for my office, was torn apart and a few things were stolen,” he said, as quoted by Warta Kota.

Ade added that the cardboard box was closed and in good condition when he checked it in, and that a fragile sticker was slapped onto it.

Ade said he made a complaint to Lion Air, but, according to him, the airline hasn’t acted on it yet.

Lion Air Public Relations Manager Andy Saladin said the airline hasn’t received an official complaint from Ade, but their crew is already investigating the matter.

Earlier this year, police arrested Lion Air baggage porters and airport security guards at Soekarno-Hatta for breaking into passengers’ checked baggage and stealing valuable items. However, the police said the baggage theft problem extends beyond Lion Air.
